About Peter

A graduate from the prestigious Mike Arrigan School of Drumming, Peter came on board late 2005 and is unique to Achtung Baby in that he adds an air of authenticity to the enterprise by coming replete with a bona-fide Irish accent.

Hailing from Galway City Ireland, Peter has been playing drums since the tender age of nine. The impetus to begin a career in drumming first came about when his mother absentmindedly left him alone in the kitchen with an array of pots, pans and two wooden spoons.

After a lengthy period of breaking kitchen utensils and driving his mother to distraction, Peter, then age thirteen, flouted the laws concerning minors in drinking establishments and began playing both rock and traditional Irish music with various local acts in the city’s lively pub scene.

The passing of time saw Peter enthusiastically honing his skills and perfecting his craft and these efforts were rewarded by graduating from local pubs to playing percussion nationally in Ireland’s premier nightclubs. It was at this point that Peter was able to broaden his musical horizons by joining the Irish dancing show ‘To Dance on the Moon’. This success was something of a mixed blessing for Peter as he had actually auditioned to be one of the dancers. Having already had their quota of more skilful (read: coordinated) dancers, the show’s producers felt his skills would be better suited behind the drum kit. That said, Peter does do a pretty mean Irish jig which has to be seen to be believed!

Exposure to the World’s stages came about when, as a member of Michael Flatley’s successful ‘Riverdance’ musical revue, Peter toured internationally playing drums from Ireland to locations throughout Europe and such exotic overseas destinations as Taiwan, New Zealand and Australia.

Falling for Australia’s clement weather and summer lifestyle, Peter migrated to Sydney in 2002 and immediately immersed himself in the local music-scene playing with various Sydney bands until his love of Ireland’s rich rock heritage, as evidenced by his preference for the music of Thin Lizzy and the Pouges, led him to become the drummer for Achtung Baby.
